Agents run for hours now, several at once.
A single afternoon can mean hundreds of commands across a handful of projects. Approve each one and the agent crawls. Approve none and nobody checks the steps that matter.
Detent lets everyday agent work straight through and stops only before steps that can't be undone: a force push, a deploy, a payment. Approve on the desk device or your phone. Every decision is signed and kept.

Reading files and running tests are let through. A force push to main, a production deploy or a refund is marked high risk. Companies set their own rules; the default ones work on day one.

The agent keeps working on everything else. One question waits, with the full command and a plain reason why it matters.

Wind the Detent knob a full turn and press, or approve with Face ID or Touch ID. A quick reflex tap never counts, and holding the button stops every agent at once.

Who approved, what, when, and how. Each record links to the one before, so a changed or deleted line shows up. Export it, or hand the auditor a ready report.
A machined desk device for people who want a physical yes. Software that works without it for everyone else.
A high-risk step needs a full 360° wind of the big knob, then a press within five seconds. Try it: drag the knob, scroll over it, or use the arrow keys. Hold the button to deny.

124 × 76 mm aluminium, 2.41-inch AMOLED, a 30 mm knurled steel knob. It shows the exact command, not a coloured light.
Every running agent stops at its next step. It's recorded, and starting again is one message away.
Approve with Face ID, Touch ID or Windows Hello. Each approval is a fresh passkey signature tied to that one action.
One install command connects each agent's own approval hook. Anything else, from a script to a git hook, can call detent ask.
Name, time and meaning on every decision, each chained to the one before with SHA-256. Export as CSV or JSON.
No account, no cloud. The software listens only to your own machine.
Move a command you trust down a level, or add your own deploy script to the high-risk list.
Unplugged or no answer in 110 seconds, and your agent asks on screen the way it always did.
Queue a finished merge or deploy and keep working. It runs only once you approve it.
Set what needs approval once; every developer's computer follows it. Rule packs for banking, healthcare, pharma and e-commerce.
Runs inside your network, with Okta, Entra ID or Google sign-in and directory sync that removes leavers at once.
Payments, production deploys or changes to the rules themselves can need a second approver.

No. By default Detent only asks before steps that can't be undone, like a force push, a deploy or a merge into main. Everything else goes straight through, and finished work can wait for review while the agent moves on.
No. A risky step only goes ahead after a turn and press on the device, or a passkey check with your face, fingerprint or PIN on your phone. Nothing an agent prints or sends can do either.
Not for individuals: there is no account and no cloud service. Companies connect computers to their own Detent server, which they can run inside their own network.
Nothing changes for your agent. If nobody answers within 110 seconds, it shows its normal approval prompt on screen.
It keeps the record auditors ask for: the person's name, the date and time, and what the decision meant, each line chained to the one before. Holding the button to stop every agent is the kind of stop control the EU AI Act describes. Detent is one control, not a certificate; what applies to you depends on your company.
