Detent collects as little as it can. This page covers the website and waitlist, the Detent bridge and device, and Detent for Teams, the company version.

The website and waitlist

The Detent device and bridge on your computer

The bridge runs on your computer and accepts connections only from it. Detent talks to the bridge over USB and has no internet connection of its own. Used on its own, nothing leaves your computer: decisions are written to a log file in your home folder (~/.detent).

Before anything is shown on the device, written to the log or sent anywhere, the bridge removes common secrets from commands, such as API keys, access tokens, passwords and private keys.

Detent for Teams (your employer's server)

If your company uses Detent for Teams, your computer is enrolled with your company's Detent server. Then the bridge sends that server your approval records: time, your name and username, the computer's name, the AI agent, project, the action (with secrets removed, or only the control name if your company chose that), the decision and how it was made, and your Detent's serial number. Your company is responsible for that data, and its own privacy notice applies.

Sub-processors (hosted service only)

We will list every outside service that stores or processes customer data here before the hosted service launches, and give customers 30 days' notice of any change.
